Ovamba wins African FinTech award

Marvin Cole FinTech Africa awards2Marvin Cole, Ovamba co-founded and president. (Image source: hawthorn advisors)Ovamba Cameroon Solutions has been recognised as the 'Best African Lending and Finance Company' of 2016 at last month's African FinTech Awards, held at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa

The online African funding and logistics provider for small and medium-sized businesses scooped the honour and secured a top 15 spot in the African FinTech 100.

The awards were part of the largest exhibition and conference for finance professionals, Finance Indaba Africa.

The winners for each category are determined by an independent panel of judges, which included investors and visionaries in the industry, as well as a popular vote that amounted for 25 per cent of the final score. The panel voted on innovation, customer sanctification, value, delivery and traction to decide the winners.

The judges said Ovamba provides a "much-needed service in West Africa" for small and medium-sized businesses, and is "solving a real problem that will enable Africa to grow and give opportunity to some seriously bright individuals and business ideas".

Watch out for the February issue of African Technical Review for more on the FinTech opportunity in Nigeria, Ethiopia and the DRC.
