South Africa and Zimbabwe vow to strengthen trade cooperation

Jacob Zuma, President of South Africa, and Emmerson Mnangagwa, President of Zimbabwe, have undertaken to strengthen economic trade and cooperation between the two countries

The two Heads of State agreed on the need to strengthen economic cooperation and expand economic and trade relations. In order to make this an important of the South Africa-Zimbabwe bilateral commission agenda, the countries agreed to support Mnangagwa’s mission to revive the Zimbabwean economy which has been hit by sanctions and other challenges over many years.

Both the leaders also decided to keep in close contact on an ongoing basis to share ideas as neighbours on political issues as well as regional, continental and international issues affecting their two countries and the continent.

Mnangagwa further appealed to the Zimbabweans living in South Africa to return home to put the skills that they have acquired in South Africa to rebuild and develop the Zimbabwean economy.

Recently, South Africa signed five strategic agreement and MoU with Zimbabwe which to strengthen bilateral relations between the neighbouring countries. The agreements focus on areas of energy, environment, information communication technologies as well as sports and recreation.
